WHO ARE Country Education Foundation of Australia?
Country Education Foundation Of Australia help regional and remote young Australians overcome some of the financial, cultural and social obstacles of relocating for further study or work.
WHY DO THEY EXIST?
They have found that “cost is a major inhibitor for people from rural areas seeking to obtain further education, especially for those in lower socioeconomic groups.”
WHAT DO THEY DO?
They award small financial grants and community support to regional and remote students to help them transition from high school into higher education, training or employment.
Grants and support are awarded through a network of over 40 local Country Education Foundations across Australia. Country Education Foundation Of Australia’s central office provides structure, framework, resources and ongoing financial and other assistance. This supports community efforts to raise funds for grants awarded to school leavers and job seekers in their local communities.

HOW DO THEY EARN THEIR MONEY?

SHOULD I DONATE TO Country Education Foundation of Australia?
Country Education Foundation Of Australia are a legally registered charity with deductible gift recipient status. They show basic indicators of trustworthiness and effectiveness. They present their strategy, show how their community partner model serves their beneficiaries, and highlight some results of their grants program. Finally, they describe their board and their finances.
However, we would need to see more before being confident in Country Education Foundation Of Australia. Importantly, it’s unclear what the financial arrangement is between them and their community organisations. This means it’s hard to know whether a donation to Country Education Foundation Of Australia is held centrally or if it is distributed across their member organisations. If it is distributed, to which organisations is the money going? Additionally, we were unable to identify any measures that ensure appropriate management of conflicts of interest. Finally, we were unable to find a description of how they monitor their own performance, and unable to source any evaluations of their grants and/or programs that verify their reported results.
After considering both the strengths and weaknesses of Country Education Foundation Of Australia, our recommendation is neutral. They demonstrate that they are probably trustworthy and effective, but we need further assurances before being able to recommend them with confidence.
In order to improve our confidence with Country Education Foundation Of Australia, we would like to see:
what the financial arrangement is between them and their community organisations
more information on how they manage conflicts of interest;
clarity in how they monitor their own performance; and
evaluations of their grants and/or programs.
