Who are AIME?
Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) work with Australian Indigenous high school students to help them finish school and continue on to further study, training or employment. They also run a mentoring program based at universities.
Why do they exist?
AIME want to “improve retention rates of Indigenous high school students to Year 12 and post-school to connect Indigenous students to university and employment.” AIME highlight that 40% of Indigenous people aged 18-25 are in university, employment or training compared to the non-Indigenous average of 75% for the same cohort.
What do they do?
AIME run a program where university students mentor disadvantaged high-school students that apply for mentorship. There are two modes of delivering the AIME program:
- University based structured programs: high school students attend a University campus on excursion from school. This mode offers delivery of the AIME curriculum to schools located within a 2-hour commute from the university campus.
- School based tutor squads: AIME deploys groups of university student mentors into the schools for additional one-on-one tutoring to support mentees’ homework completion throughout the year.

Should I donate to AIME?
AIME is a legally registered charity with deductible gift recipient status. They describe the problem and their program in depth, are clear about their achievements, describe their people and how they are governed, and are generally transparent with their finances.
They also provide evidence that they are an effective, results-driven charity. They have shown how they undertake research on the success of their programs and welcome research that helps them further understand the aspects of their programs that are effective. They also demonstrate that they are engaged with and respond to their beneficiaries' needs.
AIME demonstrate they are both trustworthy and effective. Based on our analysis, we believe your donation will be used carefully and strategically to achieve their mission. It is for this reason we give a ‘donate with confidence’ recommendation.
