Who are Berry Street?
Berry Street provide a range of services to vulnerable children, young people, families and women to help them recover from the impact of violence, abuse and neglect. They provide services across metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria.
They are a registered Australian charity. Their ABN is 24719196762.
Why do they exist?
They report that there are more than 340,000 reports of suspected child abuse and neglect across Australia each year and nearly 35,000 children in Out Of Home Care (6,000 in Victoria).
They pursue a vision that “together we will courageously change lives and reimagine service systems.” They “believe children, young people and families should be safe, thriving and hopeful.”
What do they do?
Berry Street deliver the following services across Victoria:
Providing safe homes- ensuring that traumatised children and young people have a safe and secure place to live through foster, kinship and residential care services.
Healing childhood trauma- help children heal and recover from the trauma of abuse and neglect through programs such as the Take Two intensive therapeutic program, counselling and outdoor adventure programs.
Helping Children to Learn – enhance children and young people’s capacity to achieve in education and training through a School, Education Model and vocational training.
Building stronger families- family violence and family support services that help families build their parenting and conflict resolution skills so they can better provide for their children’s needs.
Speaking out for childhood- advocacy and knowledge development to help policy makers, service providers, researchers and the community better understand what is required for all children to have a good childhood.
Supporting past care leavers- services such as Open Place and Heritage Service that support adults who grew up in Victorian children’s institutions during the last Century with counselling, support and record searches.
