Who are Camp Quality?
Camp Quality support “kids 0-13 impacted by cancer, and their family, by providing essential support services.” They offer education, family support, hospital support and recreation programs.
They are a registered charity with the ACNC. Their ABN is 87052097720.
Why do they exist?
Camp Quality believe every child in Australia impacted by cancer should be given every opportunity to thrive. They highlight that a “cancer experience can place enormous physical, emotional and financial stress on families.”
They note the scale of the problem: "over 700 children will be diagnosed with cancer in any given year. These children will join 9,500 other children who will be at some stage of a cancer diagnosis."
What do they do?
Camp Quality deliver a range of programs/services split across the following areas:
At hospital- face to face support in hospitals with Family Liaison Coordinators, Child Life Therapists and puppets “Kylie Dean” and “Melissa” to support kids impacted by cancer. A Beads of Courage program uses beads to track each procedure of a child’s cancer experience, such as blood tests, central lines, radiation sessions and surgery and kids proudly collect beads that tell their own story.
In schools- Primary School Education Program uses puppets to dispel myths and create supportive communities for any child affected by cancer. Puppet shows bring laughter and positivity to schools and can have a big impact on children’s confidence.
At home- Family fun days and Family Experiences give families the chance to reconnect and create memories outside of hospital. Outings like sporting events, the zoo or concerts give children and families a chance to spend time together and have fun.
Away from it all- Kids’ Camps and Family Camps across Australia build life skills and strengthen the wellbeing of kids impacted by cancer, and their families. Our Retreats are an opportunity for families to get away together and make new memories following treatment, and in the case of palliative care or bereavement.
