Should I donate to Leukaemia Foundation?

The Leukemia Foundation are a legally registered charity with deductible gift recipient status. They are clear about how they are managed and are transparent with their finances. They describe their activities in depth and highlight what they have delivered, as well as their achievements.

However, we need to see more on how they evaluate their programs and their strategy before being confident The Leukemia Foundation is an effective charity. While they show key results of their programs, they don’t indicate that they are evaluating their programs. Evaluations are necessary to understand how The Leukemia Foundation can improve. We also note that The Leukemia Foundation indicate in their latest Annual Report that they have just commenced a new strategy. While they highlight the objectives of this strategy, it isn’t clear how the strategy will be executed and monitored.

After considering both the strengths and weaknesses of The Leukaemia Foundation, our recommendation is neutral. They demonstrate that they are trustworthy, but need to provide some further information to demonstrate they are effective. In order to improve our confidence with The Leukaemia Foundation, we would like to see:

  • evaluations of their programs;
  • more on their strategy and how it will be executed and monitored.
